Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has issued a “positive” injury update on midfielder Christian Nørgaard, who wasn’t involved in the Bees’ 3-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup third-round replay.

The Dane worryingly limped off after a challenge from João Gomes in the first game at Gtech Community Stadium, which saw the Wolves man sent off.

But Frank has revealed that the knock is better than he first feared - but his captain won’t be available for Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest.

“It was not as bad as we were fearing, so it's quite positive about him. I think it will be a short time out,” said Frank.

“He will miss out on the Nottingham Forest game but, hopefully, shortly after, he can join the squad.”

On Kristoffer Ajer, who did return to the squad against Wolves, the Bees boss added: “It was definitely good to have him back.

“We were also just a little bit cautious, that’s why we played him 60 minutes, just to ease him back into it.

“It was good to see him on the pitch, no doubt.”

Despite the result, which sees the west Londoners knocked out of the FA Cup, Frank believes there were plenty of positives to take from the game at Molineux.

He explained: “Overall, the boys did well out there. I think the first half was a little bit average from our side, but we were still comfortable in the game.

“I was very pleased with the second half and the two halves of extra-time, so it was at least 75 minutes at a good level.

“I think we actually deserved to get more out of the game. I love the spirit, mentality, the effort - that was really, really good.”
