Thomas Frank paid tribute to Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson ahead of the Eagles’ visit to Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

Hodgson has managed 22 different teams in eight countries, beginning in Sweden with Halmstads BK in 1976.

The 76-year-old returned to Selhurst Park in March and guided the Eagles to safety with a remarkable run of results and an 11th-place finish, and in July it was announced that he would lead Palace for the 2023/24 season.

“What a fantastic career he’s had, and he’s still going,” said Frank.

“He’s a fantastic person and an absolute legend. He’s always open and friendly, and you can tell he’s been around in every aspect.

“I admire him for keeping going. I don’t think I could do it myself, but you never know. Maybe we’ll all be sitting here in 27 years!

“Working with people, being out there on the grass, playing the games every Saturday – it’s just so unique compared to any other job. I understand how it gets you.”

Brentford and Palace have shared the points on each of their last four Premier League meetings, and Frank is hopeful that his side can break the deadlock on Saturday.

“They’ve been very even games against them, and I expect another tough and even game at the Gtech,” he said.

“They have very good players; there’s a reason why they’ve consistently been in and around the top 10 during the last couple of seasons.

“It’ll be tough, but hopefully we can edge it, especially at home. We want to make the Gtech a fortress, with the energy and the noise from the fans because they play their part.”
