David Raya has said he feels like the Gtech Community Stadium is a ‘fortress’ after the Bees secured a 2-0 win against Brighton on Friday night.

Raya was in top form and made numerous important saves to keep the Seagulls at bay, as he kept a clean sheet under the lights in West London.

And the goalkeeper insisted that he and his team-mates showed ‘great character’ to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Newcastle.

“It was a good performance overall and, personally, I was really happy with my performance, it helped the team to win the game, that’s the main thing,” he said.

“It was a big thing for us to bounce back, especially at home to give something back to the fans, they support us every game we play, home and away. It was something we had to do.

“I think we showed great character after losing 5-1 against Newcastle, it’s not easy - it was important for us, important for the fans, and important for the season.”

When asked about the fans signing his name, he added: “It’s great. At home, we always say that it feels like a fortress, we feel like we can win against any team.”

One of Raya’s best saves was a crucial stop to deny Solly March, as the Brighton midfielder headed towards goal from close range, which he tipped wide of the post.

But the ‘keeper humbly stated that he was ‘just doing his job’ when quizzed about keeping a clean sheet at the Gtech on Friday night.

When asked about the save from March, Raya said: “I remember it was a second cross into the back area, he was on his own, and I just tried to make myself big.

“It came across and I touched it with my hand and then my leg, I was just hoping it went wide!

“That’s what I’m there for, I know they had a lot of chances and they created a lot, but that’s my job to try and help the team.”
