Ethan Pinnock believes that Brentford’s battling qualities were instrumental in the 2-0 victory over Bournemouth.

Ivan Toney and Mathias Jensen were on target as the Bees extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to seven matches.

“I thought it was a really good win,” Pinnock began.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game, we knew it was going to be a battle, and throughout the 90 minutes we competed really well and managed a couple of moments of quality to get the goals.”

Brentford kept their sixth clean sheet of the Premier League season against Bournemouth, with Pinnock winning six aerial duels.

“It makes it better,” Pinnock smiled.

“It’s the icing on the cake to know that you’ve kept them out. As a defender, you go into every game wanting to keep a clean sheet.

“We defend well as an XI. It’s really important that the boys at the front do everything they can to keep a clean sheet as well.”

Having played alongside Bournemouth striker Kieffer Moore during his time at Forest Green Rovers, Pinnock had prepared himself for a physical encounter at the Gtech Community Stadium.

“I know when I’m up against Kieffer it’s going to be a battle,” he continued.

“He’s a strong lad, he’s good in the air and he works hard.

“You have to match that, because if you don’t, that’s when things go wrong. Today I managed to deal with it quite well.

“They’re dangerous from set-pieces – they’ve a lot of different routines and some good players to attack the ball – so to get the first contact at set-pieces is a good feeling.”

The Jamaica international hailed Brentford’s team spirit after the Bees made it 13 points from a possible 15 in the Premier League.

“The boys are confident,” he said, “we weren’t playing one of the top, top teams, and sometimes your standards can drop a bit.

“It was important to keep our standards and we did that today. We go into every game thinking we can get three points out of it.

“We want to keep the momentum going - we’re on a great run of results.

“The big aim was to make our home ground a fortress, to keep the intensity, and we’ve done that.”
