Ivan Toney admitted that Brentford ‘deserved to lose’ against Aston Villa.

Three goals in the opening 14 minutes set the Bees on their way to a 4-0 defeat at Villa Park.

“It’s a tough one to take,” said Toney.

“We deserved to lose; you can’t put in a performance like that.

“To be 3-0 down in 15 minutes gave us a mountain to climb.

“We knew they were going to start fast, but we just didn’t start fast ourselves and got punished.

“One goal would have changed it [after half-time], but you’ve got to get the goal and we didn’t do that. Their fourth put the game to bed.

“You’ve got to be tough and nasty sometimes and we didn’t really do that. I just feel sorry for the fans who travelled here and saw a defeat like that.”
