Brentford's Youth Team have qualified for the play-offs in the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South for the first-time ever after guaranteeing a top-two finish with victory last weekend.

A 4-1 win over Cardiff City, which extended Jon De Souza's side's recent run to seven wins from eight games, was enough to secure a top two spot with three matches remaining.

Herson Rodrigues Alves struck twice with a Rhys Abrizze own-goal and Jeremiah Kamanzi's late strike confirming the three points needed.

The Bees have led the league for much of the season and are on course to set a new points record should they win their remaining three matches.

Only Charlton Athletic can prevent Brentford winning the league as they sit 11 points behind The Bees but with three matches in hand.

The U18 PDL Two has been running since 2012/13 and pits clubs with Category Two Academies, under the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), against in each other in a league format with North and South divisions.

Brentford's South Section opponents include Premier League sides QPR, Crystal Palace and Swansea City as well as Bristol City, Cardiff City, Charlton Athletic, Colchester United, Ipswich Town and Millwall.

Jon De Souza's side have taken 49 points from 24 matches this season losing only five times.

No team has scored more goals than The Bees this season while Jon De Souza's side also have the best defensive record in the league.

The Bees remaining three matches see them travel to Bristol City this Saturday before hosting Sheffield United on March 28th and they then visit Sheffield Wednesday on April 11th.

Once the league season finishes the top two from both the North and South division enter the end of season play-offs to decide the national champions.

In the Northern Division it looks like Huddersfield Town and Coventry City will fill the top two while Charlton Athletic appear favourites to pick up the other Southern Division play-off spot.

The play-offs will be held on the weekend of April 25th, the two divisional winners will have home advantage, with the National final held a week later.

There will be further updates on play-off information when it becomes available.
