Midfielder Zain Westbrooke thought that Brentford were well worth the three points in their win over Barnsley on Saturday.

Bradley Clayton put The Bees ahead after six minutes but that lead was cancelled out before half-time as Matty Templeton headed home.

That was how it remained until the final 20 minutes when Seika Jatta restored The Bees advantage before Clayton grabbed his second and Courtney Austin wrapped things up in injury time.

Speaking to Bees Player after the match Zain felt his side were well worth the three points.

The midfielder added that it was even better to see work on the training ground pay off when it came to some of the Brentford goals.

“We knew before the game what they were going to try and do and we had to try and stop that and take control of the game,” said Zain.

“I thought we did that very well in the first-half and we completely dominated.

“We maybe should have scored a few and finished the game off.

“We had to come out in the second-half and do the same again and I felt we did that.

“Some of the goals, like the third and the fourth, have been what we have been working on in training; winning it from the front and combination play.

“If you can take stuff from the training ground onto the pitch then that is exactly what you are looking for.

“It feels great when that happens especially when everyone knows what we are trying to do and achieve on the pitch.

“When it comes off the feeling is brilliant.

“I like to make the team tick and the team has got a lot of respect for the team and for the philosophy.

“When we do what we did today it feels great to be on that pitch in a Brentford shirt.

“Last year we might have lost today’s game and the game last week against Millwall when it turned into a battle.

“This year we have got a lot of desire and we are coming out with wins and scoring goals.

“We got four goals today and that is a great feeling.

“We feel like we can score every time we attack but we also feel that we can hold on and wait for the goal.”

The win means it has been a perfect start to the season for the Youth Team following on from the 2-1 victory over Millwall on the opening day of the season.

With six points from two games Zain said that there is great confidence in the Youth Team dressing room ahead of Saturday’s local derby against QPR.

Zain thinks that the positive results also mean it is much easier to play The Bees philosophy as the team have full confidence that the philosophy is also going to lead to positive results.

“It has been a great start and there is a great atmosphere in the Changing Room,” said Zain.

“It feels a lot better winning as to last season and we have got a lot more spirit in the team now.

“It feels very good to win.

“Everyone knows their jobs a lot better this season.

“We are working on it in training and the Under-16s have been at this club for a while now and they know what to do and where to go.

“Everyone has a lot of respect for each other.

“Last year it may have been a bit more split but this year there is a real team spirit.

“It is a great start and a great game to look forward to next week.

“Everyone is going to be buzzing in training on Monday and Tuesday and then looking forward to the game on Thursday and Friday.

“There is nothing better than a derby.

“You can want to play the philosophy as much as you want but if you are not winning you might be very negative and not do what you are supposed to do.

“If you are winning and playing the philosophy everything is positive and going right for you.”

Zain was too old to join the majority of his teammates in heading off to the Milk Cup this summer, instead staying behind to play for the Development Squad in pre-season.

While the 17-year-old said he was disappointed not to go to Northern Ireland for the Milk Cup he sees a lot of benefit in the work he did with the Development Squad.

Zain featured in all four of the Development Squad’s pre-season friendlies against local semi-professional sides and he said that he learnt a lot in those games.

The midfielder hopes that he can bring back some of the knowledge gained from the Under-21s game to the Youth Team and use it to help the players around him.

“I was disappointed not to go to the Milk Cup but it was good to training with the Under-21s at a quicker tempo and higher level,” said Zain.

“It meant that when I came back to the Under-18s I was at a higher level and you can bring them to your level.

“Out there today we almost played like we were older than them controlling the game.

“It is a lot different training with the Under-21s than with the Under-18s and if you can bring what you learn with the Under-21s to the Under-18s it will make the team a lot better.

“We are getting better technically and off the ball.

“It was brilliant to get a taste of Under-21s football in pre-season.

“We didn’t play some of the best teams but you have to know what different teams in different leagues are like especially men’s teams.

“It was a great experience.”
