Jon De Souza’s Youth Team continued their unbeaten start to the season after a 3-1 win over Sheffield United at Jersey Road.

The Bees led 2-0 at the break thanks to Danny Parish’s neat finish and an own goal from Joseph Cummings.

Cummings atoned for his error early on in the second-half as he powered home a close-range header from a corner but the points were secured midway through the half when Julius Fenn-Evans converted from the spot.

Parish was one of five players to come into the Brentford XI after an opening day draw with Nottingham Forest for the Under-18 Professional Development Two fixture.

United set up to match Brentford with Oliver Greaves leading the line with Brodie Litchfield and Spencer Maw either side of him.

Courtney Austin, scorer of Brentford’s goal against Forest last week, had an early sighter of goal but his effort was held by Aaron Ramsdale.

After that however it was The Blades who created the majority of chances and should have been out of sight after 20 minutes.

Litchfield scuffed the ball wide from close range after good work by Jordan Hallam before Hallam saw an effort charged down well by Sean Bird.

Greaves shot over from distance before his namesake Cameron in the Brentford goal made an incredible save to turn Maw’ point-blank effort over the bar.

Austin almost made the visitors pay for their profligacy in front of goal after 15 minutes but Ramsdale saved his one on one effort with his legs.

Cummings should have scored two minutes later but he could only prod a shot against the post from three yards out with Litchfield lashing the rebound across the face of goal.

Callum Semple was the next to pass up a good chance as he headed wide from inside the six-yard box before Brentford starting to gain a foothold in the game.

Austin shot straight at Ramsdale, Giovanni McGregor fired over from long-range and Ramsdale made a fine save to prevent Cummings deflecting a George Harmes corner into his own net.

There was nothing Ramsdale could do two minutes later though as Austin and Josh Bohui combined well and Parish was on hand to tap home Bohui’s cut-back.

The visitors tried to hit back before the break with Shea Gordon shooting over the bar and Greaves did well to keep out Maw’s effort.

Brentford doubled their lead right on the stroke of half-time as Harmes perfectly weighted ball found Austin and although he rather fluffed his lines, his dragged shot cannoned off Cummings and flew into the back of the net.

The second-half couldn’t live up to the first in terms of chances but it wasn’t any less competitive and fiesty.

Half-time substitute Reece Cole had the best of the early chances as he saw an effort saved by Ramsdale before he pulled a shot inches wide of the upright from long-range.

The visitors pulled themselves back into the match just before the hour as Cummings found the net at the right when he powerfully headed home Harvey Gilmour’s in-swinging corner.

Bohui could have re-established a two-goal lead four minutes later but his beautiful curling effort cannoned off the crossbar and away to safety.

As the half went on the game started to get very fractious with a number of niggly fouls and bookings being dished out.

The visitors felt they were on the wrong end of a number of those decisions and their mood was not helped when Mr. Mirzadeh pointed to the spot after Parish went over in the box.

Despite United’s protests the referee was not about to change his mind and Fenn-Evans stepped up to sweep home the spot kick.

Seth Owens saw an effort blocked by Jorome Slew while at the other end Gilmour headed wide.

Cummings could have set up a tense last ten minutes but he passed up an excellent chance to nod home from close range and Maw fired into the side netting after Chris Mepham had given away possession.

Kingsley Eshun might have added extra gloss to the scoreline but Max Brown blocked well as The Bees settled for a 3-1 win to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
