Brentford’s Youth Team will take part in the IMG Cup at the IMG Academy in Florida.

Jon De Souza’s squad leaves London tomorrow, Monday December 15, for the top-class training facility in Bradenton, Florida where the week long tournament takes place.

The IMG Cup is an invite-only competition drawing clubs from all over North America, South America and Europe.

Brazilian giants Botafogo as well as MLS sides Chivas and Houston Dynamo will be represented at the tournament.

The Bees are in the Super Group competition for Under-18 sides alongside Stevenage FC, Black Rock FC and  Mexican side Toluca FC.

Brentford play each of the teams in their group once and then join teams from the second Super Group, which includes Tottenham Hotspur, Baltimore Celtic, IMG Academy Under-18s and the United States Men’s National Team U17 squad, for a finals day.

Stevenage are Jon De Souza’s side’s first opponents in Wednesday’s opener before games against Black Rock FC on Thursday and the IMG Academy on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s finals day.

Speaking ahead of the competition Academy Director Ose Aibangee said: “To be invited to this competition is just another example of how far our Academy has come.

“It is also huge testament to the owner, the manager, Mark Warburton, and the work of the Academy staff that we are able to enter a competition like this.

“The First Team used this facility in pre-season for their training camp and the reports were extremely positive.

“It is a great facility and it will be another good opportunity and challenge for the boys.

“This tournament will give the boys a taste of what continental competition is like with the travelling, acclimatising to the weather and conditions and adjusting to time differences.

“It will also, hopefully, show the boys some of the rewards that football can give them and drive them on to make the very most of their talents.

“I am sure it will be an exciting and positive week for the players and staff and one which will see the boys do the club proud.”
