Brentford Women’s First Team will continue their push for promotion as they face AFC Whyteleafe Women in the London South East Regional Women’s Football League Division One North on Sunday at AFC Whyteleafe in a 3:30pm kick-off.

Following last weekend’s emphatic 8-1 victory in the Capital Cup, First Team Head Coach Karleigh Osborne is hoping his side show the same cutting edge in front of goal against Whyteleafe.

Osborne said: “We were fantastic in terms of our finishing last weekend so I’m looking for that same attacking flare which saw us create so many chances.

“The team is full of brilliant attacking options and when everyone is working together we are tough to stop, I want to see everyone playing with a smile on their faces, I believe this is when we’re at our best.”

The First Team currently sit second in the league with 19 points and Osborne believes the two positive results to start 2023 against Maidenhead and UCL Academicals should give his team confidence to push on in the league.

“We’ve been performing really well recently, we haven’t lost since November and I was really pleased with how the players came back firing after the Christmas break.

“I think the team has plenty of confidence going into Sunday’s league game, so I just want to see them express themselves and get the three points.”

Our B Team are set to play their first game of the new year on Sunday as they take on AFC Wimbledon Girls Youth Development at Bedfont Sports Club in a 3pm kick-off.

The B Team have had a frustrating start to the year following the postponement of two games halting the side’s winning streak that began prior to Christmas.

With Sunday’s match on the 4G surface at Bedfont the Bees will finally have the opportunity to continue their fine run of form.

Despite the long break, Assistant Head Coach Charlotte Tanner feels there are positives her team can take from it.

She said: “We’re definitely ready to get playing again but the time off has allowed us to work hard on things in training and I’ve been happy with each player's commitment.

“It has been unfortunate about our games being cancelled and of course, we want to be playing but it’s given the team chance to watch the First Team and learn from them.”

B Team number 11, Karen Abou-Abdallah expresses how her side are itching to play their first game of the year and how important training has been in recent weeks.

With the B Team still in multiple cup competitions and sitting second in the Greater London Women’s Football League Division One North table, Tanner goes on to discuss her hopes for the rest of the season.

“I think we had a really impressive first half of the season so if we stick to how we play and the togetherness within the group remains, I think we will have success come the end of the campaign.”
