A Football League tribunal has instructed Brentford to pay Walsall an initial fee of £325,000 compensation after signing Northern Ireland international striker Will Grigg.

The 22-year-old striker joined The Bees on a three-year contract in July after his contract at Walsall expired.

The two clubs could not reach an agreement on compensation and a tribunal was held today to decide the amount to pay.

As well as the initial fee, Walsall are due £30,000 for every 20 competitive First Team games Will plays up to a maximum of 100, i.e. £150,000.

The Bees will have to pay £50,000 if promotion to The Championship is achieved and £250,000 if promotion to the Premier League is secured.

There will also be a 20 per cent sell on clause if Will is transferred from Brentford to another club.

“We are glad that a decision has been reached and Will can now go back to concentrating on his football.”

Will made his Brentford debut on the first day of the Sky Bet League One season against Port Vale and scored his first goals against Sheffield United a week later.

He has scored twice in six games for The Bees so far.
