Will Grigg knows the importance of pre-season as he looks to impress new Brentford Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen.

The 24-year-old striker scored just five goals in his first season with The Bees back in 2013/14 but found the net 22 times last season on a season-long loan with Milton Keynes Dons which saw The Dons win promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.

Now back with Brentford, and under new Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen, Will said he is looking to make a good impression in pre-season to get himself into the Dutchman’s plans.

“My first season at Brentford was difficult,” said Will, talking to Bees PlayerHD from the club’s Training Camp in Portugal. “I had two internationals at the start that hindered me playing with the team. I had a few injuries as well so there were a lot of reasons why it didn’t work out but it was just one of those things.

“I had a great year last year and things have changed at the club. The manager wants to give me a chance to see what happens and so it is going to be an important pre-season for me. I went to MK Dons on a season-long loan with a possibility of coming back in January. I didn’t know how long it was going to be but after a successful season I am not surprised to be back. I am looking forward to getting back to the lads in training.”

Will’s form with Karl Robinson’s MK Dons also saw him force his way back into the Northern Irish national side.

The Solihull-born striker has earned seven caps for his nation and, with Michael O’Neill’s side flying high in their qualifying group for Euro 2016, is looking ahead to the next round of qualifier in early September.

“We have had a great qualifying campaign so far so it is exciting times for us,” said Will. “Our next few games, a double header against the Faroe Islands and Hungary, are important and will be massive games.”
