Sky Bet League One Wigan Athletic have signed Will Grigg from Brentford for an undisclosed fee.

The Northern Ireland international striker left Brentford’s pre-season training camp in Portugal –where he has spent the last seven days working with Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen and his coaching staff – and completed his move to the Lancashire side today, Tuesday 14 July.

He has signed a three-year contract with The Latics

Phil Giles, who is Co-Director of Football at Brentford FC along with Rasmus Ankersen, said: "Marinus and I have discussed Will's situation on several occasions in recent days.

“We reached the conclusion that, on balance, the right decision was to allow Will the opportunity to speak to Wigan, and from there to complete the transfer.

“We would like to thank Will and wish him well at his new club.

“Rasmus and I will continue the work of ensuring that Marinus has the strongest possible squad available to him for the season ahead."

The 24-year-old striker leaves The Bees two years after joining from Walsall.

He played 36 games for Brentford in 2013/14, 34 in League One, and scored five league goals.

He spent last year on loan at Sky Bet League One Milton Keynes Dons and fired them to promotion with 20 League One goals in 44 games.

He scored 22 in all competitions in 50 matches.

Will turned professional at Walsall in the summer of 2009, having made his debut as a scholar during the previous season.

He joined Brentford after scoring 20 goals in 45 games in all competitions in 2012/13, 19 in 41 League One matches.

In total he has scored 44 League One goals in 119 League One games in the last three seasons.

Will has played for Northern Ireland at Under-19 and Under-21 level and made his full debut against The Netherlands in 2012.

He became the first Brentford player to make an international appearance for Northern Ireland in 60 years when he played against Russia in August 2013 and now has seven caps.
