“I think we played very well,” said Jota. “Celta is a big team and they played very well but I think we had more intensity and we were very focused on the game. I think it was a great win before the season and everyone did a great job.
Jota gave Brentford a two-goal lead in the 34th minute, scoring a free-kick from the edge of the box. He gave a wide smile when he was asked about netting his first at Griffin Park this year.
“It’s always good to score,” he laughed, playing down the strike a little. “These games are for work and for preparation ahead of the season. I’m happy with this pre-season, I’ve worked hard and I feel fine.
“I like playing in the rain [like today], because it’s easy to move the ball and for the attackers it makes it easy to pass and move. This is London weather and throughout the year it gets like this so we have to stay focussed on the games.”
Jota spent time playing for Celta in his home country and acknowledged that it was a nice game to be involved in.
“They are my old team and I have a lot of friends in the squad. I’m very happy to have played against them today and I wish them a good season back in Spain this year.”
Overall, Jota feels ready to go this season. He said: “I feel good, I have been working throughout pre-season and I feel very well.”
