Clayton Donaldson said Brentford had an opportunity to right the wrongs of their defeat against Yeovil Town when they play Crewe Alexandra.
The Bees welcome Crewe to Griffin Park tomorrow, Saturday August 25, for an npower League One fixture, days after losing 3-1 to Yeovil.
Clayton, speaking to Bees Player, said it was good to play again so soon after the defeat and get back on the right track.
The striker, who used to play for The Alex, said the Cheshire side would come to Griffin Park to attack.
“It’s always a good thing to have a game a few days after when you lose,” said Clayton.
“We have a real opportunity to put things right.
“You always know what you will get from Crewe.
“They will play the ball on the floor and bring talented players through.
“We like to play the same so it should be a good game.
“It will be entertaining; I’m not expecting anything else.
“Crewe will come, even away from home, and play the right way.”
Clayton said the players were “down” after the defeat to Yeovil.
The Bees fell behind to a James Hayter goal but Clayton equalised after half time and Brentford had the upper hand.
However, Paul Hayes saw a penalty saved and Yeovil went on to win.
“Everyone was down, we were very disappointed,” said Clayton.
“We felt we could have got something out of the game.
“To come away with nothing was a big blow.
“When we equalised we thought we would be able to go on and take the three points.
“We missed a penalty and that was the turning point.
“We felt it was a game we could have won.”
Clayton said he was happy to score in his first appearance at Griffin Park in 2012/13.
The striker had a couple of first half efforts before finding then net from 18 yards ten minutes in to the second half.
“The first goal is always the hardest to get,” he said.
“I was happy to get off the mark and felt confident to get another.
“It’s always tough to get the first.
“I had a few shots in the first half, I was a long way away with one and one went just past the post.
“I knew I was getting closer, I just wanted to hit the target and luckily it went in.”
Clayton left Crewe in the summer of 2011 and said he had a lot of friends at Gresty Road.
He said he was pleased to see The Railwaymen come up through the Play-Offs last season.
“Almost half the team are still there from my time,” he said.
“It’s the first time playing them since I left, it will be brilliant.
“I had three great years there and my most prolific season there.
“I was pleased they got promoted.
“They have a good squad of players.”
