Brentford Manager Mark Warburton described his team’s performance as outstanding after watching them beat Crewe Alexandra yesterday.

The Bees extended their unbeaten run to 19 Sky Bet League One games with the win in Cheshire

Alan Judge smashed a shot in to the top corner to put Brentford ahead inside the first ten minutes and the attacker doubled the lead with a 25 yard shot early in the second half.

Adam Forshaw made the game safe with a 35-yard strike just after the hour mark.

Crewe pulled one back but Brentford were always in control.

Speaking to the press after the match, Mark said is side should have been out of sight after the first half.

He said he wanted his side to ensure they got the rewards for their play, both in terms of goals and promotion at the end of the season.

Mark said he didn’t want his players to go through what they went through last season, finishing third in the table and losing the Play-Off Final.

“The goals were tremendous,” said the Brentford boss.

“The first half, especially, was outstanding.

“The tempo and quality was outstanding.

“We should have been out of sight.

“The only negative from today is that we could have had a lot more, Clayton Donaldson could have had a hat-trick.

“We need to be more clinical.

“Some of the play was outstanding.

“The players have to get their rewards.

“On and off the pitch this group is outstanding.

“Last year they didn't get their rewards and I don’t want that to happen this year.

“They are working tirelessly and we need to finish games off.

“Scoring goals is a good habit.”

The game was Brentford’s first for two weeks.

They had seen two games postponed in the past seven days – at home to Crawley Town and away against Sheffield United – and Mark said the players were “chomping at the bit”.

The Brentford Manager said his back room team had worked hard to ensure the players were ready and flying from the start.

He also paid credit to the Crewe Alexandra ground staff, who ensured the game went ahead despite heavy rain in recent days and a downpour in the hours before the match.

“The players were chomping at the bit to play,” said Mark.

“They were desperate to play against Sheffield United, unfortunately that was called off.

“They were ready today.

“We were flying from the first whistle.

“There was some very pleasing football played in the first hour.

“The players have worked hard on and off the pitch in this period and it is credit to the support staff too.

“The players have been managed individually and hopefully that is showing in the collective.

“The ground staff did fantastically here to get this one on.”

Mark said Brentford had every player available apart from Sam Saunders, who was progressing well in his return from injury.

He praised his players for their performance, reserving special praise for midfield players George Saville and Adam Forshaw and attacking trip Clayton Donaldson, Marcello Trotta and Alan Judge.

“The squad is in good shape,” said Mark.

“Sam had an injection earlier in the week.

“He is coming back nicely and the medical team are pleased with his progress.

“Jake Reeves got on and Will Grigg got on, Marcello Trotta worked tirelessly and Alan Judge was outstanding, as was Clayton.

“We looked good today with Saville and Forshaw in midfield.

“It is good to have the squad working.

“We have to keep them fit, a couple may get an hour for the Under-21s to keep them fit but in general we are in good shape.”

Mark said he was taking one game at a time and would now look ahead to the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers next Saturday.

The Bees are top of the table with Wolves second but Mark said it was just another three points to play for.

“We are taking each game as it comes and managing the players accordingly,” said Mark.

“Our only focus is Wolves.

“It is another three points for us to fight for.

“It is just another three points.

“There is no point having two great wins and then losing to a team you should beat.

“We respect Wolves; they are a big club in a good position.

“We do what we do well and we fear no-one.”

More than 600 Brentford fans attended the match and Mark praised them for “great support”.

“I want to apologise to the fans, firstly, for not going over,” said Mark.

“I would have been slipping and sliding if I had tried to cross the pitch in these shoes.

“I wasn’t being rude.

“They were outstanding.

“They gave us great support and the players appreciate it.”
