Brentford let a 2-0 half time lead slip to lose the Middlesex County Senior Charity Cup, which supports the charity Help for Heroes, Final to Uxbridge

The Bees were looking good on a horrible evening when Josh Stockwell created the first goal, put through his own net by Mark Dennison, and then scored the second.

But the second 45 minutes was a nightmare for the young Brentford Development Squad side entered in to the competition.

They conceded five without reply after the break and Uxbridge were worthy winners in the end.

The rain poured down throughout, getting heavier as the night wore on, and Brentford played with a strong wind at their backs in the first half.

They had the better of the first period but Uxbridge showed they were not done with a fine end to the opening 45.

The hosts grew stronger as the game wore on and once they got a foothold always looked like winning it.

Lewis Lavender and Charlie Adams had gone close for Brentford before the visitors went ahead 19 minutes in.

Myles Hippolyte fed Stockwell on the left and his low cross was turned past his own goalkeeper by Mark Dennison.

Wayne Carter missed Uxbridge’s first chance of note and Matthew Elston-Bull got down well to deny Hippolyte before Luke Norris crossed from the right and Stockwell converted from close range at the far post.

Uxbridge came right back in to the game at the end of the first half – Tom Kanek missed a golden chance when a Nicke Kabamba shot fell to him six yards out but Joe Taylor rushed out and the winger fired wide.

Taylor denied Kevin Warner and Norris cleared a Robert Fitzgerald header off the line before half time and the Brentford goalkeeper saved efforts from Kabamba and Matthew Woods after the break.

Uxbridge found a way back in to the game seven minutes in to the second half when Carter delivered a corner and Fitzgerald rose highest at the far post to head in.

Norris had a shot deflected wide soon after that goal and Adams came close with a free kick but Uxbridge started to take control.

With the wind appearing to strengthen and the pitch cutting up in pouring rain, the extra physicality the home side had in their ranks was starting to show.

Brentford were pressed back and chances were coming.

Uxbridge levelled when a Kabamba shot spun out of the grasp of Taylor, after he had got down well to save, and bounced over the line.

And they went ahead when Brentford failed to deal with a cross, Carter fired against the crossbar and Kabamba smashed home the loose ball.

It was four when Craig Tomkins bundled the ball over the line after racing clear and having an initial shot saved and Woods had yards of space to turn and finish for the fifth.

Brentford tried to fight back and had openings – Norris had a shot blocked and blasted over before Montell Moore saw an effort saved and Lavender’s header was cleared off the line by Dennison.

But the game was up and Uxbridge took home the silverware.
