There were a group of special guests on site when Brentford faced Wolverhampton Wanderers last month. On Saturday 22 January, a group of participants from Brentford FC Community Sports Trust's disability programme attended the match in the Sensory Room, at the stadium They saw Wolves win 2-1.

The Sensory Room is located at the top of the South Stand. It offers a full view of the pitch with special glass to protect against the noise. It allows Trust participants and families that might not otherwise be able to come to watch The Bees,

The group that made the trip all attend sessions from the “On the Ball” disability programme, which supports young people with social and communication difficulties, through parent workshops and regular sports sessions. The “On the Ball” programme was designed by Action-attainment CIC and delivered by us through parent workshops and regular sports sessions that teach various inclusion skills.

One attendee said: “Our experience using the Sensory Room was fantastic. It was wonderful for Ollie to experience watching the match in an environment that was calming with the facility to be able to walk around for a movement break as well as easy access to toilets. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met and were so friendly towards the children and families. We would love to have the opportunity to watch a match there again – a place where everyone can enjoy the game with no stress or worry.”

Chris Tribe, the Trust's Disability Projects Manager, said: “It was a real privilege to be able to invite a group of participants from our “On the Ball” programme to the Sensory Room. It’s a fantastic facility for people with sensory difficulties, as it provides them with a safe environment to watch the match, whilst still being able to get a flavour of the atmosphere within the stadium. The young people and their parents really enjoyed the experience and kept asking me when they would be able to come again!”

Brentford FC and Brentford FC Community Sports Trust both actively promote Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in our behaviour, practices and values. To find out more about the disability programme please email [email protected]. More pictures from the day can be seen on the Trust website here.
