Brentford midfielder Toumani Diagouraga celebrated his 200th league match for Brentford with a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest at Griffin Park.
“I think we deserved the win,” said Toumani. “It was a tight game in the first half; they were sitting deep, trying to stop us from playing. Once we got the first goal, we opened up. A mistake by me led to their equaliser but thankfully enough we got the win.”
Forest defended in deep numbers throughout the match, as Brentford struggled to get the final ball through the Forest backline.
“It’s always going to be difficult,” said Toumani. “A lot of teams come here and try to frustrate us, catch us on the counter attack but we stuck to the game plan.”
The game saw a stuttering performance from the home side before a double substitution made by Head Coach Lee Carsley on the hour mark increased the team’s tempo and led to the three points.
“He told us [at half-time] to raise it and that it was too flat,” said Toumani. “We had to go through the gears to get the goal we needed to win. Sergi’s been doing really well every time he’s come on, so it’s good to have players like him and Hoff on the bench; we’ve got strength in depth now. When the boys come on the pitch they do a good job for us.”
