Brentford Women’s manager Karleigh Osborne says the side will certainly learn from their recent match with Dorking Wanderers in the LSE Regional WFL Division One North.

A tough afternoon at Meadowbank Football Ground saw the side beaten 9-2 by a ruthless Dorking side. They raced into a three-goal lead inside half an hour before Brentford were given a lifeline shortly before the break with an own goal making the score 3-1 at half-time. A fast start from the team, who now sit top of the table, then really put the game out of sight for Brentford as Dorking fired in five more goals in the second period.

Chloe Logie did get on the scoresheet for the Bees though as she netted her first for the club in what was a promising individual display from her, despite a day that the group will look to move on from quickly as they aim to get back to winning ways.

“We’re disappointed with the result, of course, and I think we didn’t show what we can do. We were poor but now it’s all about the response,” said Karleigh.

Women's team v Dorking Wanderers

“Dorking are a good team and they played well, and I don’t know if the occasion got to us a bit as we just didn’t put a performance together that I know we’re capable of. We didn’t get near our standards. The team will learn a lot and they have to make sure that they’re doing the basics right. You have to make sure that you give your full energy and understand the different scenarios and situations that are happening in a game and fix them on the pitch yourself.

“On the positive side, Chloe got her first goal with a great header, so we’re really pleased for her. She did well when she came on and she caused problems. I’m pleased for her.”

The side don’t have too long to wait for their next game as they welcome Whyteleafe to Bedfont Sports Club on Sunday 4 September at 3pm as they look to bounce back from a tough afternoon.

“We need a reaction, and a good one,” said Karleigh. “It’s frustrating for everyone but it’s about how we react because there is nothing we can do about the Dorking game now so we look forward on what we do next.”

The side have made a host of new signings over the course of the summer and with the team still gelling, Karleigh believes everyone is working hard to push towards a successful campaign.

“I’m happy with the players that we’ve brought in,” explained the Women’s team manager. “We’re still trying to find our feet to an extent in terms of personnel and system. We definitely have more quality than previous years so it’s now about getting them to gel and utilising that quality throughout.”

The results leaves the side ninth in the league table after the opening two fixtures and Sunday’s opponents sit below them by one place having been beaten in both of their fixtures with a 6-3 defeat to Dulwich Hamlet Women’s Reserves their last result.
