Jota marked his first Brentford appearance in more than three months with a goal in a behind closed doors friendly against Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon. The Spaniard continued his rehabilitation from injury with a 45 minute appearance in the match, on a cold afternoon at Tottenham’s training facility. Josh McEachran, also on the way back from injury, started the match and completed the first hour while Jota played the second half.

For Josh it was the longest he had played since sustaining a foot injury in pre-season while Jota is on his way back from an ankle problem picked up on the first day of the Sky Bet Championship season. Both were heavily involved in the match and Jota scored the fourth goal in a 4-1 win for The Bees.

Josh slotted in to a central midfield role alongside Konstantin Kerschbaumer and barely played a loose pass in his hour on the field. He knitted the play and enabled The Bees to progress in a smooth and confident manner from front to back. Jota produced a few of his trademark weaving runs and showed he still had a keen eye for goal. He reacted quickest after a shot from Youth Team striker Josh Bohui had been saved to tap home and complete the scoring inside the last 15 minutes.

It was another Spaniard who was the start of the first half. Sergi Canós scored twice inside the first 15 minutes to put The Bees in front. Harry Winks pulled one back for Tottenham before Canós set up Philipp Hofmann to make it 3-1.

Canós and Hofmann were withdrawn at half time after playing a key part in Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship win over Forest but Sam Saunders and Kerschbaumer played a full 90 minutes. There was also game time for Jack O’Connell, Yoann Barbet and Andy Gogia while Development Squad left back Tom Field and Youth Team right back Chris Mepham produced impressive showings.
