Brentford kicked of their Carabao Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Forest Green Rovers in the Second Round on Tuesday night. After the game, Thomas Frank spoke to the written press via a video call. Jim Levack, who has covered Brentford for many years for Press Association, among others, reports on what Thomas had to say..........

Credit where it’s due

"Forest Green deserve a lot of credit. They were the better side in the first half, they pressed high, were energetic, brave and played through us.

"We had a massive chance and then we make a mistake and went down 1-0, then it got hectic and there was not enough quality on the ball and calmness. Second half we changed the system which helped, we kept the pressure and organised things a little bit better, got around them and in the end deserved to win."

Taking responsibility

"Maybe I changed too many players, plus I changed the system. I believe in and trust all of them because they’ve played minutes before, but the combination of that and the system change didn't help. At half time we told them to stay calm and we changed the system to make the pressure a little bit better."

It’s a squad game

"It’s clear that some of the guys that have been more regular starters have a bit more quality and experience in these situations, and also find each other a little bit better in the relationships. So that definitely helped when we brought the substitutes on."

Injury updates

"Ethan came off late but he’s fine. There was a contact to the same ankle where he got contact against Crystal Palace. So he will play on Saturday against Villa.

"We will assess Mads Bech and see how serious it is. It’s something with the knee, either contact or a twist so he will be assessed.

"Matthias Jensen and Shandon Baptis trained early today and look sharp so they're getting closer. Charlie Goode has a minor injury. Tariqe Fosu is fine and trained earlier, we just decided to do it differently."

The Transfer Window

"I have a squad I'm pleased with. But you know, we're always in the market and the window is still open, so everything can happen. Julian Jeanvier is still injured or coming back from his injury. Joel Valencia and maybe some others will go on loan."

Yoane Wissa

"He looked like a player that can help us, and he got some quality. Definitely. What I like the most today was his work ethic, and how he pressed, because we know the individual qualities there. And he showed that in the moment he scored. And he looks sharper but you can also see that as we need more, and that will come more, but he was promising, and then it was good.

"It is also important that Halil Dervişoğlu and Dom Thompson can help the team. I agree that Halil had some some good moments in the game, where he could have, you know, decided the game in terms of an assist or goal. I think Dom, like the rest of the team, struggled first half, and I think he grew into it and had very good second half."

The tactical battle

"I felt there were various reasons we didn't perform at our best in the first half, but I said that all the praise to Rob Edwards and his team and staff, they did well, they were better than us. I felt it was a combination of not matching them up but also combination of the system that we played."

Premier League clubs not allowing players to travel to Red List countries for international matches

"If that's what we have decided, then I'm in favour of it. If the alternative is for player to go with an international team to a country then self isolate in a hotel for ten days and not train, then I think it makes perfect sense. I think it's a sensible decision. We are proud of all our players who are going with our national team, and we want them to go. But we're just living in a world of Covid and we need to adapt to that."

Danish values

"I think I'm in a club where I think we have some fantastic values is that that fits my values, especially togetherness. I try to bring that. I think I don't know if that's a Danish thing but I think I'm relatively structured and calm and hopefully have a smile, and maybe bring some Danish hygge."
