"Obviously after a win you're buzzing," said John, speaking after the final whistle blew on Brentford's third away win in four matches. "Especially on the road. We're unbeaten in a few games now, and it's good to continue that. I think the boys showed great professionalism tonight in our performance. We were very disciplined and compact and we took our chances.

"You're in the Championship, every game is going to be tough. You're going to come up against different teams and sometimes you're going to have to win ugly or win a different way. I thought there were times tonight where we passed it well and times when we were a bit sloppy.

"I think overall what was good was that everyone was on it mentally. We have this thing about us to go into games now, we have a winning mentality and we want to try and keep that going."

When asked about how important that mental side of the game is to the team's form at the moment, John said: "It's very important. We come into games having done the work on the training ground, so everyone knows where to be and what to do.

"I think that work is paying off, and since the start of the season, we have played very well but just haven't had the results. Now, I think people are starting to see what we're about. To come here and win two-nil, a tough away ground, is very positive."

The 25-year-old acknowledged that last year's form on the road wasn't the most consistent, but praised the team's attitude this term.

"It's hard to put our finger on it really. We're just a confident bunch. We go into every game believing we can win, home or away. I think our away performances have shown this year that we are a force to be reckoned with on the road this season.

"As you saw tonight, we didn't play free-flowing football for the whole game but when we had to go through the ugly parts of the game the lads stood up to the challenge and did very well."

As the final whistle confirmed the victory, the defenders took some time to congratulate each other on what was a hard-fought clean sheet.

"The win is first and foremost," said John. "After that, for the likes of us at the back, it's a clean sheet that comes next on the list and we are delighted to come away with it. That's our job, to keep the ball out of the back of the net, and for all the good football we play we have to do that side of it too. We did that tonight.

"You can't be perfect but you can strive for it, and I think that's what we're doing. We're going into every game trying to win and keep a clean sheet. The main thing is the belief, you can't do anything if you don't believe you can do it. There's a lot of belief in the squad and we have to keep motoring on, day in day out.

"We'll go in tomorrow and have to recover well for Saturday now. Get back on the training pitch Friday and we go again on Saturday.

"We're looking forward to going in there, we'll take the same mentality into the game and hopefully get three points."
