Brentford face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday at the Gtech Community Stadium.

We spoke with Steve Madeley, Wolves reporter for The Athletic, to get the latest lines from Molineux.

Wolves are 19th in the Premier League at the time of speaking, with two wins from their opening 12 matches. What have you made of what you've seen so far?

It has just been really underwhelming, especially given that in pre-season they scored a few goals and looked pretty good.

In a lot of the games, they have been fairly solid defensively, although even that has begun to lapse a little bit in the last three or four games.

They just don't create enough chances - and it is not just about conversion, it is actual about creation.

The goal at Crystal Palace earlier in the month, which was actually a really nice move, was a real shock to the system when you saw it happen because it is what they have not been doing. They shifted the ball through midfield, there was a good cross and a good finish. It was only their fifth goal of the season and, to that point, two had been mis-hits, one was a penalty and the other was a screamer from Rúben Neves.

The big issue has been breaking teams down and creating chances.

They have taken well over 100 shots but are currently the lowest scorers in the division. Do you think that is down to a lack of confidence?

I would say it is a combination of things.

Confidence certainly comes into it because they ended last season poorly and it has just picked up from there.

The lack of a centre-forward for most of the season has been an issue, too. Raúl Jiménez came back from his fractured skull last season and has had a series of frustrating, niggling injuries ever since.

They signed Saša Kalajdžić on Deadline Day and then he did his ACL on his debut, so he is out for the season.

That left them having to bring in Diego Costa as a free agent; he may or may not come good in the long run. Ultimately, he is a 34-year-old guy who has barely played any minutes since last December. Even if he does come good, it is going to take time.

The club confirmed last week that Steve Davis will remain in charge as interim head coach until 2023. What sort of characteristics do you think they need from the next permanent head coach?

Clarity is the word I would use. There was a sense with Bruno Lage that the players could not see the wood for the trees; he was so engrossed in the tactics and in giving instructions during lengthy team meetings that, by the end, the players looked baffled. What Wolves need, ideally, is someone to come in and simplify it so everyone clearly knows what their jobs are.

Which player should Brentford fans keep an eye on?

I would say Adama Traoré. He was the scorer of that really good goal at Palace, after excellent movement and a really good finish, and I think he is the one forward player for Wolves who has proven in the past that he can actually have an impact on games.

Traoré is incredibly frustrating because he plays with his head down a lot and is fairly one-dimensional as a player, but it is a really effective dimension when it comes off. I would say he is the player most likely, at the moment, to hurt teams.

How is Davis likely set up his team at the Gtech Community Stadium?

They have been lining up in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1, with the exception of West Ham away when they went to a back three. Every other game has been a variation of those first two.

Costa will probably be the centre-forward, Traoré - when he plays - tends to hug the right touchline, whereas Daniel Podence drifts in off the left and takes up almost a No.10 role when they are in possession and then plays wide left when they are not.

Brentford and Wolves took a win each from last season's league meetings. What's your score prediction for this one?

I'm going for a diplomatic - and optimistic – 1-1 draw.
