With the First-Team not in action, it was Nathan Mobey and Justin Ali’s side who took centre-stage as they made the trip to Bromley for their re-arranged Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy fixture, looking to build on last month’s win over Actonians’ Development in the same competition.
Going into the game as the division’s top scorer, Read wasted little time in adding to her tally this campaign: the striker’s brace taking her to 17 in 16 games this campaign. Those goals came either side of one for Kayley Ellis as The Bees looked set to make it two wins from two in the group stages heading into the latter stages.
However, Susie Benham levelled for the home side who then stole the win in dramatic fashion thanks to Renette Ofori’s injury-time goal. The defeat ended The Bees five-match winning run and also saw Emily Boycott concede for the first time since November.
It’s back to league action for both teams next Sunday as the First-Team travel to Regents Park to take on top-of-the-table New London Lionesses while the Development Team head to sixth place Hampstead Development, both kick-offs 2pm.
