Sophie Troth played a key role for Brentford Women as they beat Richmond Park 3-1 at The Beveree Stadium in the quarter-finals of the Capital Cup

The number 10 was magnificent for the Bees all afternoon and scored a wonder goal to help her side progress to the semi-finals of the competition.

Speaking on the win, Troth said: “I feel like we made the game a bit hard for ourselves at the beginning as we went a goal down, but we continued to fight to try to score our goals and we did that.

“We all worked really hard and dealt with the first and second balls well which helped us come out with the win.”

Despite the Bees dominating the game in the opening stages it was Richmond who took the lead on 16 minutes.

However, Chloe Logie replied for Brentford just after the half-hour mark with Troth believing this goal was the catalyst for her side to go on and win the game.

“We had loads of chances and last weekend Karleigh (Osborne) said we needed to be more clinical, but we eventually took our chances after quite a few shots.

“I feel like once we scored that first goal it helped us push on and manage to get another two.”

Troth put the visitors in front on 59 minutes through an amazing long-range strike after the midfielder found herself in space 25 yards out from goal and smashed the ball into the top right corner leaving the Richmond keeper with no chance.

Talking on her goal, Troth said: “I always seem to score worldies, never tap-ins, as soon as it came off my boot, I knew it was going in.

“It was my second goal of the season and I remember saying before the game I felt like I was going to score today and then I did.”

Troth displayed just how important she is to Osborne’s side when she dropped into centre-back from an attacking midfielder role late on in the second half to help her side see out the game.

“I think I’m quite a versatile player, I can play centre midfield or in the 10 or even centre back but to be honest when Karleigh told me to go into defence today, I was nervous.

“I understand that if the team needs me to do a job I’ll always help out and I’m very happy to be in the semi-finals.”
