The experienced Wiltshire referee, who tried to make it as a professional footballer in his youth, has been a professional in charge of official matches since 2008. Last season, he took charge of the League One Play-Off Final between Millwall and Bradford City, which saw The Lions win promotion.

His last encounter with The Bees was on 1 April 2017, when Brentford beat Bristol City 2-0 in the Sky Bet Championship. He also took charge of two other games involving Dean Smith's side in the 2016/17 season; the 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff City and the 3-1 defeat to Newcastle at St James' Park.

This season, he has been referee in 20 matches. He has handed out 63 yellow cards and three reds. Two of his red cards have been shown in the last two matches in succession; last weekend he sent off Harlee Dean for Birmingham City and before that Daniel Ayala saw red for Middlesbrough. Both were the result of double yellows.
