Sergi Canós is brimming with confidence ahead of Brentford’s trip to Bolton Wanderers on Monday night.
The 18-year-old, on loan from Liverpool, scored his first professional goal in last weekend’s dramatic late win against Nottingham Forest.
“I feel very good, I feel like a new man,” said Sergi. “I felt lucky to score and help the team to win.
“My family were also in the crowd behind the goal. I knew they were coming; they landed at around 1pm, got a taxi to the stadium and I scored my first goal. It was amazing.”
Sergi has featured in 11 games since his arrival in the summer and is hoping to earn more playing time as he continues to learn from his more experienced colleagues.
“I’m finding it difficult to get used to the level,” said Sergi. “So I think it’s a good opportunity for me to play with this team and in the Championship. The league is very intense and competitive so it’s good for me.
“I think we are going to win [against Bolton] because we know we are better than them, so we expect to win.”
As well as getting off the mark, his time at Griffin Park has also been aided by fellow Spaniards Jota and Marcos Tébar on the training pitch.
“My English is not great, so when I train with them I can speak Spanish and this makes things easier and I feel better.
“Of course, when you score your first goal you want many more because the feeling in the crowd and on the pitch was unbelievable. I want to score every week.”
