Sergi Canos said that the support from the fans was what made his mind up to return to Griffin Park as he re-joined Brentford on Transfer Deadline Day. The attacking player scored seven goals in 39 games for The Bees last season before a summer move to Norwich City. After just six months in East Anglia, Sergi signed a four-and-a-half year deal yesterday and said it was an easy decision to head back to West London.
Speaking to Bees Player after his move, Sergi said: “It is amazing to be back and I feel full of happiness. It’s amazing for me, my family, and all my friends. It was a very easy decision to come back even though it took until the last day of the transfer window. The support of the fans means a lot to me. The Twitter messages and everything has been great. For me the most important thing is that the fans are with you and believe in you. That is my motivation and that is why I came here.”
The 19-year-old scored Brentford’s Goal of the Season last campaign for his stunning effort against Reading and finished the season with two goals in his last four matches in red and white. Despite having limited game-time at Carrow Road, Sergi believes he is definitely better for the experience.
“I feel like I am a better player now,” said Sergi. “It was good for me to be in Norwich with everything that happened. I trained with some amazing players and I learned a lot. I feel that I have come back better than when I left.”
Sergi made six appearances for Norwich City, as well as three for the Norwich City Under-23s in the Checkatrade Trophy, during his time with The Canaries. Physically, Sergi feels he is good to go but admits it will take time for him to adjust once more to The Bees style of play.
“I am ready to go straight away,” said Sergi. “If you want me to play today, I will play today. I hope that I will adapt to being back here as soon as possible. It will take time as I haven’t played for six months. Hopefully, I can score in the first game that I play but it will take time.”
