Goals from Karen Abou-Abdallah, Abigail Claringbold and a winner penalty from captain Kasey Clifford ensured Brentford Women’s B Team left Kings College Playing Fields with their name in the hat for the Second Round of the Capital Cup.

The Bees made it two wins out of two after they came away winners in a tight affair against a Ruislip Rangers side who were previously unbeaten in all competitions this season.

Abou-Abdallah gave the visitors a perfect start after the Brentford number 11 scored her first goal of the campaign on 18 minutes.

After a corner kick was cleared by the hosts, Abou-Abdallah brought the ball down and shifted it onto her left foot with her strike from outside the box lobbing Ruislip's keeper, Niamh O’Grady leaving her with no chance.

Ruislip responded well though and managed to get an equaliser 15 minutes later through Krystal Follett.

After some nice build-up play, the home team managed to get the ball out wide to Follet who came inside Brentford defender, Alicia Henry and beat Emily Boycott at her near post with a firm strike.

Despite the Bees playing some nice football, they went into half-time a goal down after Catherine Fahy scored for Ruislip on 45 minutes.

A mistake from Samantha Jones, who attempted to play out from the back was latched onto by the home team’s striker.

The number 29 had a clear shot on goal from 10 yards out and smashed it into the left corner.

Speaking on his half-time team talk Women’s B Team Manager, Tommy Ryan-Maynard said: “My main message to the girls was to take care of the ball better than we had been.

“We were playing good football for the first 20 minutes of the game but then became careless, I told the players we were the better side we just needed to concentrate more.”

A key feature of the Women’s B Team this season has been their desire to battle for a result, an early goal after the break from Claringbold put the Bees level again, proving the determination the team have.

Clifford played a brilliant ball over the Ruislip back line and Claringbold hit a perfect volley into the right side of the goal which levelled the score line.

On 56 minutes Claringbold was causing the hosts back line problems again, after she failed to give up a loose back pass to the Ruislip keeper, she was brought down by O’Grady and awarded a penalty.

Clifford was reliable as ever from the spot and smashed her penalty into the bottom left corner putting her side 3-2 up.

Following this goal, the game became very open with both teams battling hard to claim the win.

The closest Ruislip came to getting an equaliser was on 80 minutes through a free kick from Fahy as her strike from 20 yards whispered past the post.

The Bees managed to see out the remaining minutes of the game much to Ryan-Maynard’s joy.

“I was really happy with how much maturity the team showed in our defending, we remained calm despite the pressure we were put under.

“We showed good quality on the ball in the second half, and I was pleased with the togetherness we showed all game.

“This was a tough match against a good side, but we frustrated them with our never say no attitude and we deserved to leave with the win.”
