Brentford goalkeeper Richard Lee said he was “delighted” to sign an extension to his contract at Griffin Park.
The 30-year-old has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at Brentford until the end of the 2013/14 season.
Richard said Brentford was a great club to be at and he was being supported in every way by the back room staff at Griffin Park.
He added his aim was to again establish himself as first-choice goalkeeper at Griffin Park.
“I am delighted to sign,” said Richard.
“I have always made it clear how much I enjoy being at the Club and hopefully this will be good for both parties.
“I have had injury issues this season and the Club has been very supportive.
“My aim is to be fit and back in the team – this new contract gives me the opportunity to do that and gives me another season here.
“Almost every time I might have had a chance in the team this year I have been injured and unable to play.
“I know when I am fit I am one of the best goalkeepers in the division.
“I want to do that and then go from there.
“I was very happy to sign and happy to do it by the end of December, no player likes to go in to the final few months of their contract.”
The 30-year-old joined The Bees from Watford in the summer of 2010.
Although he started the 2010/11 season on the substitute’s bench his performances in Brentford’s runs in the Carling Cup and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy saw him established as first choice by November and he was named Supporters’ ‘Player of the Year’ at the end of the campaign.
He continued to hold the number one jersey for most of the 2011/12 season and played 42 games in all competitions during the campaign.
Injury saw Richard miss the start of the current season and Simon Moore has played the majority of games in goal for The Bees.
But Richard has continued his impressive form, conceding just two goals in five games so far in 2012/13.
“My goals have not changed,” he said.
“I am not here to be the second choice goalkeeper.
“I feel when I have played this season I have done and I don’t feel like I have been dropped.
“Massive credit to Simon, he has done extremely well.
“I am positive in my thinking, I feel I will get a chance and I believe I will take it.
“This is a club that is going places, who knows where we will be in 18 months’ time.
“This is a great place to play football.
“Not a lot of people see what goes on behind the scenes but the set-up here is fantastic.
“The medical team, especially [Head of Medical] Neil Greig have been great for me.
“I have a great relationship with Neil and he has helped me through my injuries.
“There is also a fantastic goalkeepers’ unit with [Goalkeeper Coach] Simon Royce.”
Brentford sit third in npower League One after 23 games and with games in hand on the teams above them.
The Bees have won their last five league games and eight of their last ten to climb up the table.
Richard said: “We are on the crest of a wave.
“It is down to us how long this continues.
“We have a squad with a lot of quality and we have strength in depth.
“We have to keep believing and keep winning games.
“There is no reason we can’t do so.”
