A double from Abigail Claringbold and goals from Holly Hawkes and Lille Elsbury ensured the Women's B team gained all three points at Hackney Marshes on Sunday against Tower Hamlets.

It took Brentford only six minutes to open the scoring after Ruby Sumpter played a pinpoint ball through to Claringbold, who showed great composure to slide the ball into the bottom corner- scoring her first goal for the club.

Just four minutes later the Bees were at it again, this time Claringbold was the provider as Tower Hamlets failed to clear their lines giving the Brentford number 24 the opportunity to find Hawkes who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

The hosts failed to make any real impact on the game with Brentford being the dominant force throughout, continuing to pile on pressure and going into the half unfortunate to not be more than two goals up.

The Bees' hard work was awarded straight after the break with Claringbold sealing her brace when the high press forced the Tower Hamlets' defence into losing the ball. The striker’s first shot was saved but she was there first to follow up the rebound and calmly lob the keeper to give her side a three-goal advantage.

Tommy Maynard’s team were not finished yet and on 50 minutes they led 4-0, this time it was Lillie Elsbury who was in on the act. The number three beat two opponents on the right wing giving her some room to shoot with her effort deeming to powerful for the Tower Hamlets keeper, whose hand on the ball was not enough to stop the strike.

After a strong performance from the Bees the home side did eventually manage to get a consolation goal with 10 minutes to go. A slight lapse in concentration from the Brentford back line allowed their striker an easy attempt on goal, firing the ball past Emily Boycott.

Brentford Manager Tommy Maynard was delighted with his team’s performance saying: “I was really happy with the result, it was nice to get the win and it was a strong performance from the squad who I felt were never in any real danger of losing the game.

“Seeing things that we have worked on in training being brought out in the game was really pleasing, a couple of the passing sequences we have been doing in drills were on display which was great to see.”

Claringbold, who signed for the women’s B team at the start of the campaign made quite the impact on the game scoring two goals and earning an assist. Maynard talks on how pleased he has been with her efforts since she has arrived at the club.

“She will be very important to us this season; I’ve seen lots of positive signs from her in training and throughout the games this season so I’m really happy with how she’s getting on.”

Despite the victory the manager still insists that his team have plenty to work on if they want to serious competitors in the league.

“Our final product could be better, there have been a lot of instances where crosses have come into the box but chances haven’t been taken, this is something I’m looking to work on in training.”
