Brentford B defeated FC Chiasso U23s 2-1 at Stadio Comunale in Switzerland on Tuesday afternoon. All the goals came in the first half as Kevin O’Connor’s side finished off their Italian tour with a record of two wins and a draw.

Joe Hardy scored a penalty after quarter of an hour before Henrik Johansson scored a free-kick to add the second in the first 45 minutes. Chiasso struck back through Christian Konan but that was all that the Swiss Challenge League side could manage.

There were two changes to the side that played Salzburg at the weekend, with goalkeeper Simon Andersson and winger Henrik Johansson coming into the team for Patrik Gunnarsson and Kolbeinn Finnsson. It was Johansson’s first start since he suffered an injury playing against Reading in February 2017, and so O’Connor handed him the captain’s armband.

Brentford dominated the early stages, creating a chance that saw Charlie Oliver nod one at the keeper from close range. Hardy then hit the post after shooting low from just inside the box.

The referee awarded Brentford a spot-kick when a Chiasso defender seemingly handled the ball when trying to block a shot from distance. The kick was taken by Hardy, who drilled it into the net and made it three goals in three tour games.

A few minutes later, Brentford had a second. With 22 minutes gone, Johansson curled a free-kick over the wall just outside the box. It found the top corner and marked his first goal in over two years.

Almost straight from kick-off, Chiasso had a goal back. Konan had collected the ball inside the box after a teammate rounded Andersson on the edge of the box. Neither Oliver nor Luka Racic could prevent the goal from being slotted home by the striker.

In the second half, neither side could manager a goal. Chances came and went for the likes of Canice Carroll, who hit the bar with an audacious overhead kick, and Kolbeinn Finnsson, brought on after an hour. Johansson also needed to be taken off after taking a ball to the face when defending a free-kick, replaced by Matej Majka after 59 minutes.
