Brentford Football Club is offering to reimburse any supporters left out of pocket due to travel expenses incurred for the postponed Sky Bet Championship match against Birmingham City.
The game has been moved from its original date – tomorrow, Tuesday 18 August – to Tuesday 29 September. This is because the playing surface at Griffin Park is to be dug up and replaced in the next week.
Any supporters that cannot make the rearranged date will be entitled to a full refund on their match ticket. However, the Club is aware that some fans may have made arrangements to travel to the match and paid fares which cannot now be cancelled.
Subject to conditions, Brentford FC will reimburse any fans left out of pocket on travel expenses by the late cancellation. Each supporter can claim up to £100 from the Club. Both Brentford and Birmingham fans can make a claim.
Mark Devlin, Brentford FC Chief Executive, said: “We understand that this decision, while being entirely necessary, will have inconvenienced some supporters. We were expecting hundreds of supporters from Birmingham and we know some of our fans come from many miles away to attend games.
“We hope they have been able to claim refunds on any train tickets they have paid for. But if they have not, we will make a contribution to the costs they have incurred. Everyone at Brentford is well aware that these are unusual circumstances and it is the least we can do to make this offer.
“I would like to thank the Board and Matthew Benham, the Club’s Owner, for making funds available for this. I always like to think that Brentford is a club that will take care of everyone that attends matches and this is what we have tried to do in this instance.”
Supporters can claim their travel refunds by sending an email to [email protected]. Refunds for match tickets will be dealt with by the Ticket Office at Brentford, for home tickets, and Birmingham, for away tickets.
Refunds are subject to the following conditions:
- Bookings must have been made before the announcement, on Wednesday 13 August, that the game was postponed.
- Supporters should send their travel tickets, proof of purchase and proof that they have asked for a refund and one was not granted.
- Blues Collective (a Birmingham City Supporters Group) will assist with claims from Birmingham fans and away supporters should contact them in the first instance.
- Fans will have until next Wednesday, 26 August, to make a claim
- Maximum refund of £100 per person.
