Brentford’s Swedish international defender Pontus Jansson has had ankle surgery. The 29-year-old, who captains The Bees from centre half, had the surgery yesterday, Wednesday 13 January, to address an ongoing issue. Pontus has been troubled by an ankle problem for some time and has missed games in recent weeks as a result.

Pontus has played 51 games for Brentford since joining from Leeds United in summer 2019. He also has 27 Sweden caps to his credit and has won five of those since moving to West London. The skipper will now begin a period of rehabilitation with the aim of returning to training and match availability in time for the run-in at the end of the 2020/21 Sky Bet Championship season and the 2020 UEFA European Championship, being played this summer.
