A young player who impressed at the Brentford FC open trials has been training with the Club’s Development Squad this week.

The Club’s Academy ran a two-day trial for players aged 16 to 23 last month.

Hyun Jong Kim, 19, impressed the Brentford scouting team during the trial.

He has been training with the Club’s Development Squad this week, taking part in the normal sessions with Under-21 players.

This will enable the Club’s staff to take a closer look at Kim and decide whether he could get a professional contract.

Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “We have a top class scouting network and are always out searching for new talent.

“But there are always players that don’t get seen and these trials give us a chance to look at faces we have not spotted or at some we do know in a professional environment.

“We liked what we saw of Kim at the trials and he has been training with Development Squad Manager Jon De Souza and the Under-21 players.

“If he impresses again may be the chance of an extended trial or a contract.

“That chance exists for everyone who attends our trials.

“It also gives him a chance to be involved with a professional set-up for a week and he will see what it takes to be a full-time footballer.”

The open trial, which ran over the course of a weekend, involved players being put through their paces at Brentford’s Jersey Road Training Ground.

All players got two hours of training with the coaching team at Brentford’s Category Two Football Academy, working with some of the finest development coaches in London.

On the second day of the trial every attendee got playing time in a match situation and there was individual written feedback after the game.

Kim said: “I have never played at a professional level.

“This is my first time with an English pro team.

“I have had a fun week.

“The open trials went well but training at a professional level, the level is much higher.

“The fitness level is higher.

“The coaches here have been great, they are at a really high level, it is professional here.

“I want to learn from them.

“I want to be a professional footballer, I want to join Brentford.

“I now just have to wait.”

Kim spoke to Bees Player during his time with the Club – subscribers can see an interview shortly.
