All at Brentford Football Club were saddened to hear former midfield player Peter Broadbent died today at the age of 80.
Peter, an inside forward, was best known for his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers and won seven England caps, scoring two goals.
But he started his professional career at Griffin Park, joining The Bees from Dover Athletic.
Wolves paid £10,000 for him in 1951 after Peter had played just 16 Football League games for Brentford, scoring two goals.
The fee, for a 17-year-old, made Peter the most expensive teenager in football.
Peter spent 14 years at Wolves and represented England in the 1958 World Cup.
He won three First Division championship medals and one FA Cup before later playing for Shrewsbury Town, Aston Villa, Stockport County and Bromsgrove Rovers.
He suffered from Alzheimer’s disease in later life and died in a care home today.
Everyone at Brentford FC passes on their condolences to Peter’s family.
