Arnar Viðarsson's side look set to miss out on a place in Qatar, going into this break fifth in Group J with four points from six games. They are seven points behind second-placed Armenia who they welcome first to the Laugardalsvöllur next Friday, 8 October, kick-off 7.45pm. Three days later it is bottom-of-the-table Liechtenstein who make the trip to Reykjavic, that game on Monday 11 October also kicking off at 7.45pm.
Patrik is yet to make his senior debut, having been an unused substitute for Strákarnir okkar's three World Cup Qualifiers last month. The 20-year-old is Iceland’s number one at Under-21 level, winning 12 caps at that age group. He was between the sticks all through qualifying for the Under-21 European Championships and featured twice at the finals during the summer.
Patrik is currently on loan at Viking Stavanger in the Norweigan top flight. He's played two games for his new club who currently sit sixth in the Eliteserien, nine points off top spot.
The stopper joined Brentford B in the summer of 2018, aged 17. His performances for the B Team during his maiden season, which included a Middlesex Senior Cup title, earned him a place on the substitute’s bench for seven First Team games. He was called upon to make his Brentford debut in a Sky Bet Championship win at Middlesbrough in March 2019. He replaced Daniel Bentley for the final 16 minutes, plus eight minutes of stoppage time, as The Bees picked up a 2-1 win.
He signed a new long-term deal in West London in June 2019 and was officially promoted to the First Team squad three months later. Last season he earned a double promotion from the NordicBet Liga. In two spells, first with Viborg FF and then Silkeborg IF, Patrik kept 14 clean sheets in 26 unbeaten games as his two clubs filled both promotion spots from the Danish Second Tier. The goalkeeper won eight of his 12 matches for VFF, keeping four clean sheets, before ten clean sheets in 14 matches for Silkeborg saw them win 12 and draw two of the matches he played for them.
To begin this season, Patrik was named on the bench for our season opening win over Arsenal and our EFL Cup triumph against Forest Green Rovers.
