Brentford B goalkeeper Patrik Gunnarsson has been named in the Iceland Under-21 squad for two upcoming games. The 18-year-old, who signed a long-term contract in the summer, is part of a 26-man initial group for Iceland’s first two games in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2021 qualifying process. The final 20-man squad will be announced next week.

Iceland begin the road to the championships next week. They face Luxembourg next Friday, 6 September, before taking on Armenia the following Monday, 9 September. Both games will be in Iceland. These are the first games for Iceland in Group One of the qualification tournament. The group winners will qualify for the tournament along with the best second-placed team in nine groups. Eight other runners-up will take part in Play-Off games.

Patrik also made his Iceland Under-21 debut last season and has won two caps at that level. He has been part of the national set-up for the past few years and represented his country at Under-17 level when he was just 15. He has played 16 games for Iceland in total and was called up to train with the full national squad last summer.
