Birthdays
Edward Nash (1902)
A goalkeeper and minor-counties wicketkeeper for Wiltshire, Nash joined The Bees in 1930 after a decade with hometown club, Swindon Town. Nash was our first-choice keeper over the next two seasons, making 64 appearances as we finished third and fifth in Division Three South. His second season also saw him play all five ties during our run to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup before departing for Crystal Palace.
Herbert Lawson (1905)
Lawson joined from Arsenal in May 1927, as a replacement for retired outside forward Patsy Hendren. After making 13 appearances in what remained of the 1926/27 season, scoring twice, Lawson broke into the team the following year and made 34 appearances, scored 9 goals. He was mostly confined to the reserves for the following three seasons at Griffin Park and helped the team to London Combination titles in 1931/32 and 1932/33. Lawson departed in 1933, having made 64 appearances and scored 12 goals in six years with the Club.
Terry Evans (1965)
A cult hero in every sense, Terry Evans was at the heart of our defence during a memorable nine-year spell. After a slow start due to injury, Evans broke into the First Team in October 1987 and never looked back. He forged a centre back partnership with Keith Millen and went on to become Club Captain. Evans made a career-high 62 appearances during the 1988/89 season, missing just one league game and appearing in all eight matches of our run to the FA Cup Quarter-Final. He was voted the Supporters' and Players' Player of the Year for that season, winning both accolades for following year.
Evans' greatest season came in 91/92, when he captained the Club to the Third Division title and promotion to the second tier for the first time since 1954. He was also named in the PFA Team of the Year. A serious knee-injury restricted Evans to just ten matches the following season as Phil Holder’s side were relegated. Evans then found himself out of favour under David Webb and departed for Wycombe Wanderers in October 1993. He left with 285 appearances and 30 goals to his name.
Evans’ popularity endured following his departure; he was named as Brentford's all-time fans' favourite, second greatest player and best-ever captain in a Football League 125th anniversary poll in 2013 and he also topped a BBC Sport Brentford fans' cult hero poll in 2005. He was inducted into the Brentford Hall of Fame in August 2014.
Jason Price (1977)
Welsh-international Price, arrived in August 2001 from Swansea City. He made 18 appearances over the next three months, scoring once against Reading, before being released and joining Tranmere Rovers in November.
