Birthdays

Alfred Thompson (1891); 15 appearances, 2 goals

After failing to make the grade at Liverpool, Glossop, or Woolwich Arsenal, inside forward Thompson arrived at Brentford from Walsall in 1919. During our last season in the Southern League he made 28 appearances, scoring eight goals, and was retained for our first Football League season. His two goals during our maiden campaign came in the autumn, with a strike in a 3-1 win over Norwich City and a penalty in a 1-1 draw with Southampton. At the end of the season he was released and dropped into the non-league.

Simon Cox (1987); 14 appearances, 0 goals

Simon made 14 appearances on loan for the Club during the 2006/07 season either side of a broken leg picked up at Millwall. That was in late September and he returned in late November to be a regular starter over the Christmas and New Year period. Simon then returned to Reading before enjoying a successful second tier career with the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Nottingham Forest, and then back at The Royals.

Damien Scannell (1985); 2 appearances, 0 goals

Winger Scannell featured twice on loan from Southend United during our 2008/09 promotion-winning season. He started our dramatic 2-1 win over Bradford City in December and then was a late substitute during our Boxing Day victory over AFC Bournemouth. After Brentford he returned to The Shrimpers before dropping into the non-league.
