Corpus Christi RC Primary School, from New Malden, were crowned npower League One Kids Cup winners after victory at Wembley last month.

The school – representing Brentford FC and the Community Sports Trust – beat Chetwynd Junior School, who represented Coventry City, in a penalty shoot-out on the day of the npower League One Play-Off Final.

Corpus Christi won the right to represent The Bees by beating Little Ealing Primary School in the final of the area tournament organised by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and held at Goals Soccer Centre in Isleworth back in January.

They then won the npower League One Kids Cup South at Crawley Town FC in March before winning at Wembley.

It was the second year in a row Brentford had been successful in the tournament after Collis Primary School, from Teddington, won the npower League One Kids Cup at Wembley in 2012.

Luke Skelhorn, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust General Manager, said: “The Trust is absolutely delighted that Corpus Christi were able to emulate the achievements of last year’s winners, Collis, in the npower Kids Cup.

“For local schools to have won the competition in consecutive seasons is a unique achievement, and one that we are extremely proud of.

“Our coaching staff – Luke Brooks-Smith and Graham Goodden – accompanied the team at Wembley and were so impressed with the way Corpus Christi teacher Tony Mesourouni and his players conducted themselves on and off the pitch.

“They were a credit to Brentford FC, their school, families and friends and we look forward to welcoming them to a match at Griffin Park next season as our special guests.”
