Nikki Woods remained in a positive mindset after the Brentford Women’s pre-season fixtures began with a 4-2 defeat against Hayward Heath Town at Bedfont.

Woods put in a solid performance for Brentford Women despite the defeat scoring a well-taken goal against strong opposition.

Speaking on the game, Woods said: “I think it was a really good game, Haywards Heath are a good side so I think we did well and showed there wasn’t much between us despite the result.

“We found ourselves 2-0 down early on but did well to grab a goal back straight after their second, it was our first run out as a team since the end of last season. We had a lot of trialists included also so considering that I think we did well.”

Woods found the net for the Bees on the stroke of half-time as her side went into the break 3-2 down.

The forward showed great composure to take the ball around the opposition's goalkeeper and placed her shot into an open net.

Talking on her goal, Woods said: “I didn’t have too much time to think about it, which probably worked in my favour, obviously it would have been nice to get the win but on a personal note I’m always happy to score.

“I want to make sure I get a good pre-season under my belt so that when the season comes I’m prepared and ready to go.”

The fixture against Haywards Heath marked the start of Woods’ second season with Brentford Women as the forward went on to explain her excitement for the new season.

She continued: “I had a really enjoyable first year at Brentford, it was disappointing that we didn’t clinch the title in the end and get promotion but that makes me even more determined to help the team towards that in the new season.

“A large core of the group is staying, and we’re adding some new additions who will come in and strengthen the side so I’m really excited to see what’s to come for us.”
