New Zealand will play at least one more game in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup after their place in the knock-out stages was confirmed.

Brentford goalkeeper Nik Tzanev is in the New Zealand squad for the tournament and played in their 5-1 win over Myanmar on Friday, 5 June.

That ensured New Zealand finished third in Group A and results elsewhere meant they qualified for the last 16.

They will play Portgual at 8.30am BST on Thursday, 11 June.

Nik made his first appearance of the tournament in the win over Myanmar, the first ever for New Zealand in an Under-20 World Cup.

Myanmar took the lead in the first half as Aung Thu gave Nik no chance with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Nik made a few vital saves and New Zealand, who are hosting the tournament, came back.

They led 2-1 at half time and eventually recorded a 5-1 victory.

Speaking the www.brentfordfc.co.uk, the 18-year-old goalkeeper said: “Everyone was ecstatic after the game.

“I think we started a bit slow and we were put on the back foot after we went 2-1 up.

“But we managed to compose ourselves and bounce back quickly after they scored their first goal.

“This put the boys in a good mood to come out in the second half and get those goals we needed.

“The 15,000 crowd meant there was an amazing atmosphere, it was brilliant to play in front of and we owe a lot to all the fans that came.”

Nik was born in Wellington and moved to England in 2006.

He was first-choice goalkeeper for Brentford’s Youth Team in 2014/15, playing 19 games as The Bees reached the final of the Under-18 Professional Development League.

Nik has also played two games for the Development Squad this term.

He was named Youth Team Player of the Year and has been offered a professional contract for 2015/16.

The Myanmar game was Nik’s second appearance for New Zealand Under-20
