Nico Yennaris wants to push on and help The Bees achieve Premier League football after signing a new contract with the Club that will see him stay in red and white until 2019. The former Arsenal youngster joined Brentford during the winter transfer window of 2014 and has been used in a variety of different positions from anchoring midfielder, to right-back and also part of the attack. Speaking after signing his new deal, Nico reinforced the ambition and belief in the squad that he hopes will see them make a charge towards top flight football.
“It’s good to know where I stand with my future and I’m looking forward to the next three years,” said Nico. “I think for any player three years is a very good contract, it gives you a chance to just focus on the games ahead and the following seasons. Both parties were keen to get me signed up and secured here so everything went well and I’m looking forward to kicking on now.”
The Bees came away from their most recent trip to Hillsborough empty handed, but Nico’s performance earned him Man of the Match. The 22-year-old thinks that a regular run of games with the First Team has helped him progress and believes that the goal of Premier League football isn’t out of reach in the future.
“I thought despite the result, analysing my performance, I think I did alright,” said Nico. “Obviously it just wasn’t the right result, but I think I did well at the weekend. For any player to be playing regularly you become more confident and more comfortable with the league and the players. The more games I keep playing, the better I’m going to get.”
After a stop-start beginning to his career at Griffin Park, including a loan spell away at Wycombe Wanderers at the end of last season, Nico has now made 30 appearances for Brentford in all competitions. The former England Under-19 international is confident that the team can achieve the ultimate goal of promotion.
"Premier League football is where I want to be playing, hopefully we do that with Brentford. If it means I push on by playing well then hopefully that happens.
"Of course, the first season or two I was in and out but I think this season I have shown I can play at this level and I’m looking forward to carrying on stamping myself on the game and hopefully push on.
"We all have the same desire, we all want to be in the same place and have the same goals of Premier League football so we are working well and working hard together to try and achieve that."
