This time next week the Sky Bet Championship season will be over and Brentford enter the final days of the season on a record-breaking run. There are just two games of the season remaining and Brentford go in to them having won eight in a row. The next team waiting for The Bees is Stoke City. That game will be played at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday, 18 July, and will kick-off at 12.30pm.
The Bees made it seven wins in a row since the resumption of football after the Covid-19 outbreak with a 1-0 victory over Preston North End last night. Those victories were added to a win over Sheffield Wednesday in March to make it eight in a row. That matches the record achieved by The Bees in a single Football League season. That was achieved in 2013/14 and there was a FA Cup defeat in the middle of that run. Brentford have never won nine competitive matches in a row in a single season in the Football League era but did win nine in a row in 1932 over two campaigns.
The next two games will decide Brentford's fate this term. Brentford's winning run means they sit third in the Sky Bet Championship table and have closed the gap on leaders Leeds United and West Brom, who are second. Leeds are three points ahead of The Bees, albeit they have a game in hand, against Barnsley this afternoon. West Brom are a point clear and also have two games to go.
Saturday's match will be behind closed doors, but will be live on Sky Sports. Season Ticket Holders will have received an email from the Club with a code to redeem to watch games on iFollow. Full details about that email and what to do if you have not received it can be seen here. It not be available to buy as a single match.
This will be our third meeting with The Potters this campaign following a 0-0 Championship draw at Griffin Park in September and January's 1-0 Emirates FA Cup victory. Last season's encounter at the bet365 Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw, Ollie Watkins on target, as we took our first point in four visits to Stoke's home since 1997.
