With each team having played seven games, the Premier League will take a break this weekend as international fixtures are played. When the season resumes Brentford will be back at our new stadium for the next game. This time Chelsea, currently Premier League leaders and UEFA Champions League holders, will be the visitors.

Brentford's season will resume later than most. The Bees will face the only other West London team in the top flight this season at 5.30pm on Saturday 16 October. The match will also pit two of the top seven in the table against each other.

The Bees go in to the game on the back of a win away to West Ham United. That was Brentford's second successive away win and The Bees have taken seven points from their last three matches. Brentford have earned 12 points from seven games so far and sit seventh in the table.

Chelsea are, however, one of the teams above them. The Blues have won five of their seven games so far this term and lost just one, to Manchester City. They have 16 points and top the table, a point ahead of Liverpool and two clear of Manchester City, Manchester United, Everton and Brighton and Hove Albion. Brentford come next.

Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League last season, winning five of their last eight games to secure that finish. They reached the Emirates FA Cup Final, losing it to Leicester City, and also the Champions League Final. On the day Brentford won the Championship Play-Off Final to secure promotion, Chelsea beat Manchester City to win the Champions League for the second time. They have already secured the UEFA Super Cup this term and have reached the Carabao Cup Fourth Round.

This will be the first league meeting between the teams since 1947. All ten league meetings between the times came in Division One in the 1930s and 40s. Brentford won four of those and Chelsea five, including the last two. The sides have been drawn together in the FA Cup three times since with Chelsea progressing each time, lastly in 2017.
