Long-serving midfield player Sam Saunders has signed a new Brentford contract, extending his stay at Griffin Park by a further 12 months.

Sam has been a Brentford player for almost six years but his contract was set to expire at the end of the current 2014/15 campaign.

He has today signed a new deal to keep him at Griffin Park until the summer of 2016.

Mark Warburton, Brentford FC Manager, said: “I am delighted to have Sam extend his time with the Club.

“He offers so much for us on and off the pitch.

“Sam has shown real passion to be part of the Club moving forward.

“He has come through a difficult period of injury and has shown his desire and resilience.

“I am delighted to see him as part of the future of Brentford FC.”

Sam joined Brentford in the summer of 2009 from Dagenham and Redbridge after scoring 14 goals for the East London side in their 2008/09 League Two campaign.

The 31-year-old was on the books of Charlton Athletic as a youngster and moved around the non-league scene before being part of the Dagenham team that won promotion to the Football League in 2007.

After four years with The Daggers he headed to West London and he is now the second longest serving player in the squad, behind Club Captain Kevin O’Connor.

Despite missing most of 2014 with a knee problem, Sam has now played 170 games for Brentford in all competitions and notched 27 goals.
