The project combines healthy eating workshops with practical sessions of football, dodgeball, and handball.
What does the project involve?
The nationwide project, designed by international company Ferrero, encourages young people to get more active. By combining six weeks of practical sporting sessions with classroom sessions, the programme encourages physical activity, promotes nutritional education and builds awareness of the importance of a healthy diet and active lifestyle.
Children have also benefited from appearances from Brentford players Henrik Johansson and Jan Novak who have helped highlight the importance of exercise and healthy eating. The Move & Learn programme has been endorsed by local MPs Ruth Cadbury and Virendra Sharma who both attended sessions last year.
What impact has it made?
Pinder Kaler, a year five teacher at Gifford Primary School, has certainly seen the benefit amongst her pupils. She said:
“The pupils have learnt a lot about nutrition, and the feedback from parents has shown a positive response towards the programme. The pupils have enjoyed learning about their body and how to keep fit. It has been a very positive experience!”
Harkanwalpreet, a Year 5 pupil, said:
“I enjoyed learning about how our bodies work and why exercise is good for us. I love that we played football and other sports – it really helped me to communicate with my classmates.”
