Montell Moore said every person he had spoken to thought he had scored for Brentford’s Development Squad in their pre-season friendly against Hampton and Richmond Borough.

The attacker seemed to have broken the deadlock early on in the match, played at The Beveree last night.

He chipped Hampton goalkeeper Milan Stojsavljevic from around 20 yards and started to celebrate as the stopper scrambled back.

But, incredibly, the goal was not given despite the goalkeeper pawing the ball back in to play from behind his line.

Montell, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said everyone on the pitch thought it had gone in but he just had to get on with it.

The game ended 1-1 with trialist Christian Lagos scoring for Brentford after Ben Harris had put Hampton ahead against the run of play.

“We dominated the first half, played in their half and had chances,” said Montell.

“My one was obviously controversial.

“I was celebrating because I thought it was in.

“The referee said ‘play on’.

“Everyone I have asked said it was a goal; I don’t know what to think.

“We have to play to the whistle.

“It should have been a goal but it wasn’t and we have to switch on.”

Hampton’s goal came just before the break but Brentford equalised almost immediately when Lagos profited as defender Max Hustwick slipped.

Montell said Brentford shouldn’t need to fall behind to put their chances away.

They had numerous through the game with Stojsavljevic making a series of fine saves.

“We bounced back well after their goal,” said Montell.

“But it shouldn’t take us going a goal down to score.

“We should go out and score, not let them score.”

Montell came off at half time as he was needed in training today, Wednesday, for work with the First Team.

“I feel good,” said Montell after the match.

“I could have gone on longer but I am in training with the First Team.

“It feels special.

“I want to keep getting there, being around that group and trying my hardest.”

The game drew a crowd of more than 400 to The Beveree and Montell said that would help the players in their future careers.

“It was nice to play in front of a crowd like this,” said Montell.

“It prepares us for when we go to the First Team.

“There will be a lot more fans.

“It gives us a bit of help to make sure we don’t crumble under pressure.”
